Thanksgiving at RPL

Filed under: Uncategorized — toni @ 12:19 pm

Well here we are on the precipice of the holiday season. We have a lot to be thankful for at the Radford Public Library. And we hope our patrons do too. The library will be closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will resume normal hours on Saturday, November 26. Our annual tree lighting event will be held Wednesday, November 30 at 7 pm. Tom Angleberger, a very popular local children’s author will be here Monday, December 5 at 6:30. Both of these events are made possible by your donations. Please come out and enjoy!
For all of you ebook readers out there, here is a little explanation of how our system works. RPL belongs to a consortium of libraries that subscribes to Overdrive—this is the website you link to off our home page. www.radfordpl.org Once you login with your library card into Overdrive, you will be able to access the titles available or request ones that are checked out. You may check out ebooks or audiobooks for your portable devices. Since RPL belongs to a large consortium, that means that about 15 other library systems are purchasing and their patrons are also checking out these items. However, I did purchase extra copies of the most popular titles, The Help, The Litigators, Against All Enemies, and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. These are all ebooks. If you would like to request a title, send me an email and I will see if it is available. However, there is no way to link your account to a new title, so you must be alert in your search for new titles.
On a similar note, on December 6 at the Christiansburg branch of the Montgomery Floyd library system, a representative from Lyrasis, a non profit organization that provides services to libraries, will be there to talk to folks about the electronic resources that the Library of Virginia provides. So if you have 90 minutes available to give your opinions and learn about how your tax dollars are being spent on library resources, the following times are available:
9:30-11 for parents,
11:30-1 pm for Genealogists and historians,
2-3:30 for general library users
4-5:30 for library staff
If you have any questions about this, or you would like to request an Overdrive title, send me an email at tonicox@radford.va.us
