July 21, 2009: @ the library

Summertime reading rolls along at the Radford Public Library with some of the biggest Summer Reading Programs coming this week. For adults, the annual summer Community Book Discussion will be held this Thursday, July 23 at noon with guest speaker RU interior design faculty member Renee Walsh helping with the discussion of LOVING FRANK, by Nancy Horan. This novel is based on an episode in the life of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Participants can bring a bag lunch to the discussion.
The library participates in several book discussion groups for adults, as well as some for young people. The oldest of these groups began decades ago through the American Association of University Women (AAUW) which has over the years morphed into the Radford Monday Night Book Discussion Group. This group is open to anyone who wishes to come and has recently posted their list of books for the upcoming year on the library’s web site at www.radford.va.us/library. The regular lunch time Brown Bag Book Club is also open to everyone. For more information, please call the library at 731-3621.
For young people, one of our biggest performing groups will arrive on Friday, July 24th at 3 PM when Barefoot Puppets presents an Australian-themed show. This puppet show, Dreamtime, features folktales from the Aboriginal tradition. All children participating in the Summer Reading Program are welcome to attend.
