Award winning library

Filed under: Uncategorized — toni @ 11:45 am

Having just returned from the Virginia Public Library Director’s meeting, I am happy to announce that we received two awards. One for Outstanding Staff, recognizing the wonderful work Jaime Duval has been doing and one for Outstanding Service Innovation, recognizing the collaborative effort with Radford University’s archivist Gene Hyde.
The Radford Family Letters are now available online at both the Radford University archives collection and the Radford Public Library genealogy resources link. Many of these letters predate the Civil War and are now keyword searchable and available to search and peruse.
Jaime Duval, our youth services coordinator has increased the number of participants in our adult summer reading program. Her story times are consistently overflowing with children excited to learn. With Jaime’s dedication, the library has been more involved in community festivals and events.
We are lucky to have such dedicated community members to support our library. Community Foundation of the New River Valley has awarded a grant to the library for the purpose of using technology with library services. In this case the Mango language program will be loaded onto several apple itouch devices and used by teachers and students to further language instruction. Also if you have a phone that texts and you would like to text your question to the Radford library staff, simply send “askRadford” to 66746. One question you may want to ask is, “when is the next book sale?” Answer Friday, May 17, Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19. Doors open at 10 am Friday. Hope to see you there!
