| Stop by the Radford Public Library to enjoy an amazing and award winning puppet show. Emus, crocodiles and frogs — oh my! Experience the magic of “The Land Down Under” in this performance inspired by Aboriginal folktales. Learn more about some truly unusual animals as a mother platypus tries to get her young one to sleep by sharing three stories from the Australian Dreamtime. In these “How and Why” tales, you’ll learn how the emu became a flightless bird and why the platypus looks so strange. In the final story, you’ll meet a giant, bloated, ocean-swallowing frog! Perhaps you’ll even be invited onstage to help bring the water back! Perfect for Preschool through 5th graders. | |

Turn an ordinary book into something extraordinary at the Radford Public Library. Old library books will be turned into art under guidance of art teacher Whitney Whitacre. On a side note, the library regularly lets old, worn-out, outdated and un-popular books go in order to make room for new books. Usually the books are sold at the Lamplighter’s quarterly book sale which raises money, in part, to pay for the summer reading program, but for the Altered Books program they will be given a new life as art. Check out examples of altered books at this website: [CLICK HERE] This program is for kid age 9 and up and teens. |
